Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant Expanding from Vienna to Seven Corners

Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant's New Seven Corners Location

Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant is a longstanding favorite among DC area vegetarians. Since 1997, the family-owned cafe in Vienna has served meat-free Asian dishes in a cheery atmosphere decorated with sunflowers.

After nearly a decade of happy customers and great reviews, Sunflower will open a larger location in Seven Corners (Falls Church, VA). The new location is on Route 50 in the building that once hosted the Golden Diner. The new restaurant will have more seating and an expanded menu, and is planned to open around Christmastime.

(The photo above is Sunflower's new location, currently being remodeled.)

FloydFest on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd, VA

FloydFest 5 Poster

Washingtonians should sometimes break free from the Beltway to the splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whether it's a daytrip to Harpers Ferry, a pleasant drive along Skyline Drive, or a multi-day hike along the Appalachian Trail, the Blue Ridge Mountains provide boundless rustic adventures just hours from downtown DC.

In the Global Village

One such adventure is the annual FloydFest near Floyd, Virginia. This three-day music and arts festival has six stages of live music simultaneously playing Afrobeat, bluegrass, folk, folk rock, art rock, rock 'n' roll, jazz, blues, blues rock, gospel, Cajun, and Klezmer.

Pickin' Porch with Jake Shimabukuro

Just as impressive as this cavalcade of music are the arts, crafts, non-profit, and global and natural food vendors that flank the grassy fairgrounds. And if all of this overwhelms you, just relax with a deep-tissue massage and an herbal chakra lesson in the Healing Arts Village.

More Hula Hoopers

But nothing beats the positive vibe permeating the festival. This is no self-important scene of vacuous hipsters or pop-culture parade of what's so-hot-right-now. On the contrary, it is an open-minded, spiritual, and unassuming scene dedicated to the diversity of world music and progressive thought. You are welcome to come, welcome to stay, and welcome to enjoy the festival your own way.

Guajillo Grill Mexican Restaurant in Arlington

Guajillo Mexican Restaurant in Arlington

Guajillo Mexican Restaurant is located on Wilson Boulevard in the Courthouse area of Arlington. It's in a strip mall of small businesses that's hard to browse by car, so is often overlooked by folks who don't live in the area.

Guajillo Mexican Restaurant in Arlington

The family-owned restaurant is popular for authentic and delicious Mexican food, great sangria, margaritas, and mojitos (with even a virgin mojito on the menu), and good service in a cozy, dim atmosphere. I definitely recommend stopping in for a bite -- you won't be disappointed.
